Bio
Yoko Oji Kikuchi is a fourth-generation American artist, musician, zinemaker and video editor of Japanese and Filipino descent. Born and raised in NYC, she grew up drawing and making comics, before switching her focus to music and photography, and then back again to drawing and comics in 2018. and then zine-and-bookmaking in the early 2020s.
Recently she graduated from the IPRC Portfolio Program in Comics, in Portland. Her thesis project is about her paternal-paternal family’s immigration from Japan in the early 1900s. She plans to self-publish a full run of her thesis in book form this fall.
In the past few years she has been freelancing as an illustrator, designer and video/audio editor for organizations such as Geist Magazine, SF Urban Film Fest, Japanese American Memorial Pilgrimages, Oakland Asian Cultural Center and ABO Comix, as well as for individuals (see the Commissions section).
